Every so often a book comes along that deserves a special mention-
So here then is a playlist based on, or at least influenced by the brilliant –
‘Last Train to Memphis’ – the rise of Elvis Presley by Peter Guralnick.
‘Unrivalled…(Elvis) steps from these pages, you can feel him breathe, this book cancels out all others’-Bob Dylan.

Runnin’ time 105ish-
A couple a notes on the songs-most of the songs included here were songs actually recorded by Elvis, although a couple are songs that he just played/sang in auditions or rehearsals. Most are the original versions. Although a few like ‘Harbour Lights’, ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’ an ‘Blue Moon’ were standards that had already been recorded by several different artists that Elvis would’ve heard at the time.
An lastly the Charlie Feathers demo- I don’t think it was ever released or even recorded by C.F until some time later? It appears that it was just sung to Elvis an the band at the session? I can’t seem to find out just when the C.F vers WAS recorded/ released? I’ve always found this quite odd, as it was perfectly normal around that time, an especially at Sun, for songs to be sung by at least a couple a different artists? So obviously being such a great song, what stopped C.F recording/ releasing it at the time? – if anyone could shed any light? ………….
