NOT THAT WE NEED A REASON TO PUT TOGETHER ANOTHER PLAYLIST
ON THE SUBJECT, BUT I’VE JUST STARTED READING FUTURE DAYS, KRAUTROCK AND THE BUILDING OF MODERN GERMANY BY DAVID STUBBS, SO, WHY NOT?
MOST CURRENT FANS LIKE MYSELF WERE’NT EVEN BORN, OR WERE TOO YOUNG TO NOTICE GERMAN MUSIC WHEN IT WAS BEING RECORDED IN THE LATE 60’S/EARLY 70’S. IT WASN’T POPULAR, ACTUALLY NOBODY I KNEW KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT IT, UNTIL MAYBE JOHN PEEL STARTED PLAYING THE ODD TRACK, OR JOHN LYDON CHOSE HALLELUWAH AS A FAVOURITE TUNE ON THE CAPITOL RADIO INTERVIEW?
FOR ME, GROWING UP,I DISCOVERED KRAFTWERK & WORKED MY WAY BACK. BUT I LOVE THE IDEA OF HISTORICAL CONTEXT (ESPECIALLY WITH MUSIC) & IN THIS CASE WITH COMPARATIVE MORE POPULAR ART ROCK BANDS OF THE TIME (& SINCE?) LIKE FLOYD, SOFT MACHINE, THE VELVETS, EVEN ZAPPA, ENO/FRIPP,
BOWIE FOR THAT MATTER?
……AND THEN OF COURSE THERE’S ALSO THE FASCINATION WITH MAN & MACHINE, ELECTRONICS & THE GUITAR. AND ALSO THE PULSATING, OFTEN HYPNOTIC BEATS/GROOVE. ALWAYS A WINNER!
SO, IF YOU HAVE’NT ALREADY? JUST READ THE BOOK, PLAY THE MIX,
SIT BACK & ENJOY…
& IF YOU LIKE THIS PLAYLIST, CHECK OUT ‘KRAUTROCK/SPACEROCK’ & THE ‘MOTORIK’ MIX FOR A SLIGHTLY MORE CONTEMPORARY LOOK AT SOME OF THE FAR REACHIN’ INFLUENCES…
