the name…
'DROP THE BISCUIT' (place the needle on the record)
-a term used to describe PART OF the VINYL CUTTING PROCESS BAC IN THE 40/50’s, IN JAMAICA.
-as described by lloyd bradley in his brilliant book, Bass Culture: When Reggae Was King-
pv- “growing up in the punk scene,
in the mid to late 1970’s reggae became a big influence. as i read bass culture, the name just jumped out at me”
OUR HISTORY...
beginnings-2002/2003
pv-'DROP THE BISCUIT' started in our basement flat in west london, a minutes walk from the westway & the pounding bass of dub vendor, around 2002/3.
a small GROUP of music enthusiasts, gathered once a month, to eat, drink & share their stories, love & appreciation of music & ESPECIALLY VINYL.
each evening would result in a tape, & then later a CD (as technology got more sophisticated!) of the nights proceedings.
not surprisingly from such a motley crew, what resulted OVER THE COMING MONTHS was an eclectic mix OF tapes & cd’s. JUMPING FROM GENRE TO GENRE LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMOMRROW,
not unlike a john peel show, (which is not surprising really, as most of our generation grew up with their ears glued to the radio every weekday evening anyway).
never mind the podcasts -2013
although it was often talked about spreading the love to a wider audience, it wasn’t until 2013 that 2 of the original members rosspunk
& pv (AKA the slippery1) FINALLY GOT the
'DROP THE BISCUIT' website up an runnin'.
THIS would INCLUDe PV’S 'DTB' SERIEs
ROSSPUNK’S 'LIFELINE' - a growing selection of THEMES,
AND a variety of brilliant GUEST MIXES.
music beautiful music
from then on, 'DROP THE BISCUIT' has grown from strength to strength, west to east, with an archive of over 400 mixes & continues to deliver the most impressive top quality
